Faulkerson offers young black Americans practical advice for 1) determining if they have The Drive to Thrive and 2) reclaiming their righteous minds. Filled with anecdotal information from his life, Faulkerson reminds young, black Americans that they can't expect gifts from God if they refuse to be blessings to others. He also provides a historical analysis of American affirmative action policies, contending that black Americans must learn to thrive without preferences as they work with like-minded individuals of all hues to build upon the gains of the Civil Rights Movement. Collective prosperity is nothing more than understanding that we were placed on this planet to be blessed and to be blessings to those around us through our words and deeds. Yes, we do have to display steadfast concern for our individual rights, but we must also work with the enlightened to build upon the gains of the Civil Rights Movement. Does that mean we forget what white Americans have done, and continue to do, to black Americans and other persons of color? No. What it means, though, is we hold out hope that the descendants of racist Whites work with us to create a more equitable society.
